Summer School 2021

Learn English in Ireland at Summer School

CIELS Junior Summer Programme will return for July 2021.

To safeguard all our stakeholders' health and well being during COVID-19, CIELS has made the decision not to run our Junior Summer Programme this year. We would like to thank all of our students, agents, host families and tutors for your understanding.

  • Dave spent most of his teaching career in the classroom of mainstream education, and in later years moving on to a managerial position. CIELS is an exclusive, family run school of English Language and Irish Culture. It's exclusivity is it's success.
  • CIELS' flagship course, its original 'Junior Vacation Programme, is recognised by The Department of Education Via QQI / ACELS ( Quality & Qualifications Ireland / Accreditation & Co-0rdination of English Language Services) for English Language teaching.
  •  Being the longest established English language centre in Carlow, we have enjoyed this accreditation for 16 years and continue to work with QQI / ACELS through regular inspections and workshops to develop and enhance our courses.
  • Combining Dave Barron’s successful career in academic management, Catherine Barron’s invaluable experience in host family and learner relations, and Danny Barron’s Cambridge language training and business acumen, our summer school is a complete English language and cultural programme.
  • This programme is designed to constantly engage learners in a language based or cultural activity.
  • Activities run from 09:30 to 21:00 at night, ensuring that learners always have a quality activity to participate in and learn from, in a safe environment.
  • We use St. Mary’s Academy, a modern secondary school within five minutes walk of Carlow town center, for our summer school.
  • It is a modern, fully equipped school, with its own student centre and gymnasium, which we use for afternoon and evening activities.
  • Our Syllabus is designed in modules based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Copies of our Syllabus to Curriculum documents are available on request.

Our underlying philosophy is summarised in our Mission Statement:

Our Mission is to provide visiting students with opportunities to learn English language and experience Irish culture in a safe, friendly and happy learning environment.
We strongly assert the right of all students, teachers and other staff members, visiting leaders and host families to work together in a respectful and harmonious atmosphere.

Recognised by ACELS, a service of Quality and Qualifications Ireland, for English Language Teaching (ELT).

I really enjoyed my time in Ireland! The Blended Programme gave me good experiences, meeting new people, learning a new culture and language. I learned a lot at the Irish Wheelchair Association Carlow where I did my internship. I also learned a lot studying the Human Growth and Development and Work placement module. The time flew because we were having so much fun. I can't believe it's already over but I will never forget it. Blended Programme thanks for everything!

The Blended Programme was great! It was an amazing combination of the internship and college. I've learned so much at school about Human Growth and Development. My internship was great and all the Irish people are amazing! Sean, Danny and Claire helped us when we needed them, they were fantastic. Thanks for everything, this is an experience I will always remember.

My experience with the Erasmus+ Blended Programme is very positive. It gave me an opportunity to learn about Ireland, learn the English language but also I learned to be more independent. Supervisors from the Blended Programme, teachers from school and my colleagues from Hillview Nursing home helped me with everything. Blended Programme thanks for this amazing experience I will never forget it.
